Proliant DL160 G6 fiber HBA install.
I am have a DL160 G6 running Ubuntu OS with a HP Smart Array P212 controller running the internal RAID 5 drive array -- no problems here.
I need to install a fiber HBA and connect to a HP MSA. I have a HP StorageWorks 82B PCI-e card and a HP 2012 fc DC MSA.
So...I need to move the P212 card to the front PCI slot (the P212 is currently in the rear) The 82B must be in the rear so the fiber can exit the chassis.
When I move the P212 to the forward pci-e slot and power up a post error is generated: '627 - Illegal system configuration, check front panel, system ID, or riser.'
I believe that the P212 is now in 'slot 4' (as indicated during POST, but during the working configuration the P212 is in 'slot 2'.
Any ideas how to get the P212 card to function in the other pci slot? I did not see any options in the BIOS.

Re: Proliant DL160 G6 fiber HBA install.
Hi Chris,
DL160 G6 server
Slot 2: PCIe 2.0 x8 (connector)/x4 (speed), half-length/half-height - reserved for HP Smart Array P410 Controller
so this can not be used to conneect P212 controller.
The HP Smart Array P212 Controller (P/N 491191-B21) is supported in the Non-Hot Plug Model (P/N 491531-B21) for external storage control ONLY.
When selecting the HP Smart Array P212 Controller (P/N 491191-B21), the controller will be installed in the x16 slot since it has both an internal and external port. This prevents the use of the internal slot and no PCI-E slots will be available.
So P212 is intended to be use for extenal devices.
Check quicspecs for for details

Note : check expansion slot and P212 controller for clarification.
Hope this helps,
