Proliant DL320G4 with SATA Hard Drives

I have a proliant DL320 G4 with 2 x 146gb hdd's installed. Server picks the hdd's up in post and boots fine into the O/S. But the LED's on the hdd's do not light up at all. Tried one of the hdd's in another server and LED's work fine. Is this a backplane issue with the server?

Yes, the lights come from LEDs on the backplane, but control comes from the systemboard and onboard controller
