Proliant DL360 G4 compatibility with SA6400 and Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel

Hi all ,

I'm looking for some confirmation on capatibilty before i place an oder for a new controller for our MSL 2024.

I have a Proliant DL360 G4 currently installed with a SmartArray 6400 controller. My question is can i install a 374654-B21 Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel, VHDCI HBA into this server aswell ? as I am unsure about the card lengths (i.e. full / half ) and compatibility with the Server.

If i understand correctly the DL360 G4 has a full length and 1/2 length PCI-X slots. The inner most slot of my server is filled with the SA 6400.

Is this card compatible and do i have to purchase anything else like motherboard risers etc ?

Hi Daren,

I came across this link for hardware compatibility for backups, hope this is helpful

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/ISS/13-0002-0001.html#matrixtable

This has the compatibility of the specific server to the controller or the adapters used.

Thanks NS , but I already have the compatibility matrix and confirmed that the Ulta 320 LVD controller works with the library.

My issue is related to the compatibility of adding this controller into my server which already has a SA6400 controller occupying one of the expansion slots.

KiranKumar

Thanks for the advise, but I am asking if it is possible to install a 374654-B21 Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel, VHDCI HBA into my system that already has a SA6400 ?

And if any other components are required , i.e. Motherboard risers for the motherboard.

Re: Proliant DL360 G4 compatibility with SA6400 and Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel

Hi Daren,

As I understand from your issue that you want to install both the cards on the server.
But the server specs says that there are 2 slots on the system board
1 - Half-length connector PCI-X expansion slot 1, 64-bit/133-MHz 3.3V (optional PCI Express slot 1, x8)
2 - Full-length connector PCI-X expansion slot 2, 64-bit/133-MHz 3.3V (optional PCI Express slot 2, x8)

So since the Smart array 6400 controller has already occupied one slot, we would have to get a PCI-X riser assembly to fit both the 374654-B21 Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel, VHDCI HBA. and the HP Smart array 6400 controller to work together

Possibly a 361387-001 PC Board : PCI-X board - With backplane

Hope this answers!!!!!

Thany you ramesh_naik,

I've just been told from a HP reseller that the 374654-B21 Ultra320, HBA is a 1/2 length card. Therefore will fit into the spare slot.

Can I ask why a riser assembly would be required ?

Re: Proliant DL360 G4 compatibility with SA6400 and Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel

Hi Daren,

As I was going through the specs of the server, the server should be installed with the PCI riser card assembly which has PCI slots on either sides.

Since I would feel that this card (374654-B21 Ultra320, HBA) might be a full height card. Right now I do not have any documents which supports this.

The reason why I suggested for a PCI riser card was because the server specs tells that there is a full length and 1/2 length PCI-X slots. So since the smart array controller is already installed, then the only way to add this controller in the server is by adding a PCI riser board.

If I were you, I would get a confirmation with HP technical support to get this information.

Hope this answers!!!!!!

Re: Proliant DL360 G4 compatibility with SA6400 and Ultra320, LVD, Single Channel

Hello Darren,

1.As per the U320 Userguide http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00257525/c00257525.pdf
Pg 1-1 (8 of 29)
the the SCSI HBA card must be installed in a
64-bit, 133-MHz, PCI-X slot with Ultra320 devices.

2.Find attached pdf for detailed information.
The Pci slots and the SA 6400 and U320 HBA have coloured marking.
See if you can figure out if they are different bcoz i could'nt,perhaps i'm color blind ;-).

3.Check with the reseller how he found its a 1/2 length and post the same.It will be useful for others.

4.If its a 1/2 length it'll fit in slot 1.
Else you have to go for a 2nd pci riser board.
Option part 354589-B21.

4.As per the specs,MSL2024 is supported.
