Proliant DL360/ Netware 5.1 Install fails

I've got a dual processor DL360 server which keeps crashing when trying to match the drivers to hardware during a Netware 5.1 install. Anyone seen this problem before ? It's pretty consistent

Are you doing an assisted smartstart installation?

Yes - I should have mentioned that - using the smartstart install process.

What version of smartstart do you use?

Do you have an additional nic in your server? If yes, what type?

Smartstart v 6.30 - this shipped with the servers.

Compaq NC77xx/NC67xx Gigabit NIC.

If you use a dos partition, the size should be less than 1.4 GB
Might that be the case?

What happens exactly? Do you get an abend? freeze? when does this happen?

Re: Proliant DL360/ Netware 5.1 Install fails

I'm using a 500Mb DOS partition.

I start the install via smartstart, place the Netware CD in when prompted and the install continues.

The fans in the server seem to be on overdrive at this point. I've already checked the ROM version as there is an issue with the fans but that's been ruled out. ROM version is the latest one.

Files are copied over to the server and when the the "Matching drivers to Hardware" message appears the server crashes, i.e. it stops dead, recycles the power and comes back on after around 10 seconds.

It's consistent

I've installed another DL360 without this issue and as far as I can see the hardware and software are identical.

Are you able to put the drives from the working machine into the not working one?
Maybe this is a way to find out where to find the problem.
