Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
I Use backupExec 2012 to backup my servers and one of them keeps failing with a disk error. The support documentation on Symantec's site tells me to do a few things that i have done and it keeps failing. The last task is to upgrade the firmware on the array controller in the server. I have never done this before and am hoping that someone can assist me with this.
I have a ProLiant DL360 G5 server with a SmartArray P4000i installed. Attached is more information on the Array Controller.
Can someone assist me in locating the correct firmware update, and the proper procedure on how to do it.
Thanks!

Re: Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
hi,
Here is the latest FW version.
There is a tab "installation instructions", where you can see how to perform the update.
Thanks
regards,

Re: Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
You're telling about an disk problem. Maybe one of those 2 disks is bad, but still GREEN. Probably there is a SystemsManagementHome page on this server under https:\\<yourserver>:2381. When you look under Storage/P400i/Physical Drives, has one of the drives a great number of Hard Write or READ errors ??? Then that drive should be replaced.
FW version 4.12 is very low for a P400i. It should be 7.22. Whenever the FW version of the P400i is too low, then probably the drives FW levels are also too low.
Nowadays we use SPP to upgrade FW and drivers.
Download on http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/service_packs/en/index.html
When you're download the complete version, then you can create a bootable DVD/USB stick.
You can then choose to update off-line (means: bootup with the bootable DVD in it) or on-line (put in the CD/USB in the working machine and run hpsum.exe).
It looks to me that the safest way for you now is to do the off-line method (only the FW of BIOS,SmartArray,ILO and disks will be upgraded ... don't bother when it says that it is for Linux, the system don't know the OS with this method)

Re: Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
No the Disks are all functioning properly. IT is just that BackupExec is not able to use this outdated version of the firmware i guess.
With the SPP is there an order in which i should update things. I was looking on the SmartArray download site (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1157687&swItem=MTX-545aefc097cc426fa7a4668322&prodNameId=1157689&swEnvOID=4024&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0) and it says that the System ROM needs to be a specific version. Should i use the SPP to update this first then the SmartArray firmware?

Re: Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
The SPP take cares in which order it installs.
Probably the best is to upgrade first the BIOS (if it says so).
Newest version is 7.24 (i see) and not 7.22.
Which O/S is the server running ???? (because I doubt if Win 2012 is supported on this server)

Re: Proliant DL360G5 SmartArray Upgrade
You can also upgrade the FW of the disks seperately (thus, without using SPP). You need then the Model number of the disk (ie. DG0146BALVN ) You find this model no in the SystemsManagementHome page. You then fill that number directly in http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html and voila
