Proliant DL380 G4 - Advice on disks to use in the array

Hi,

I'm looking to replace an imminent failure drive. Currently both disks are MAXTOR ATLAS 10K_300SCA. Am I OK to purchase the same spec from different supplier? FUJITSU MAW3300NC 300GB U320 10K 80PIN SCSI HARD DISK. My reason is purely the big price difference. I believe this is fine but wanted confirmation.

Thanks in advance.

Tony

Hi,

should work - is the firmware different on the disk you get from the manufacturer?

I rang the manufacturer and they don't know the firmware version of the new drive. He says the stock is from this month (Whether thats true or not, don't know, it was a sales man talking!)

The existing drive says firmware version JT00.

I'm thinking I should pay the extra and get the same manufacturer disk? Even though the firmware of the new disk will probably be different anyway.

It feels as a marginally safer option to get the HP disk anyway.
