Proliant DL380 G4 smart array 6i issue

Installed Win Server 2K3 with 2 logical drive arrays. It sees 1st array fine, but the 2nd logical drive it has "lost" twice now. When we reboot it does ask to enable with potential data loss. the last time I deleted teh array and rebuilt. after reboot I enabled it and all the data was still there (as far as we could tell). This will be a production server and I can not have this happening. This is 2nd DL380 we have installed. the first is running fine w/o issues.

Win 2K3 server
3.5 GB of ram
Citrix
terminal Server
2 72.8 GB in 1st drive array (mirror)
4 72.8 GB in 2nd Drive array (raid 5)

Hi,

Load the Array Diagnostic Utility for Windows if it's not already installed.
(Start-Programs-HP System Tools-ADU)

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23024.html

Run ADU and create a report (REPORT.TXT).
Attach this report to your reply.

This can be analysed to see if one or more of your disks is generating errors.

Re: Proliant DL380 G4 smart array 6i issue

Hi,

The analysed report (attached) shows problems with SCSI ID 2 (bay2) around 5th January 14:10.
Since the "service minutes" entry shows all disks to be roughly the same age I would replace this disk if you are in any doubt as to the source of the current problem.

It looks as if it has been pulled out and re-inserted at least once before (Spin cycles=2, hot-plugs=1).

The HP spare part number for this drive is 289243-001 if you want to replace it yourself.

You may also benefit from the Smart Array 6i firmware update 2.58a (You are currently at 2.36).

I hope this helps.
