Proliant DL380 G5 Disk Performance.

Hello People,

I have recently bought a new server and wondered if anyone could have a look at whether the disk performance is within specification.

The Server is using the standard P400 Controller with the 256mb Read Cache.

There are three disks, 72GB 10k SAS in one Raid5 configuration.

Two Logical Drives. 1x 15.7GB OS and 1x 130GB DATA.

My performance figures were taken from CrystalMark.

Sequential Read : 82.84
Sequential Write : 31.16
Random Read 512K : 41.92
Random Write 512K : 34.87
Random Read 64K : 11.02
Random Write 64K : 5.02

It looks like it's very slow.
I was wondering if this is either limitations on the hardware or whether there is a hardware/fimrmware issue.

What else can I do to improve performance other than changing the disk configuration.
Also would I benefit upgrading the controller to read/write cache?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Proliant DL380 G5 Disk Performance.

you will improve your read/write performance installing the 256 MB optional memory with the BBWC.

also, as you said, performance are affected by the number of HDDs you are using in your array. always.
also, the configuration of the "stripe size" will affect the proformance.
to determine the stripe size ... it's up to you.
depends of your applications ...

bye.
