Proliant DL380 G5 embedded NIC NC373i Jumbo Frames
Hi ;
I am trying to figure out what the switch is for jumbo frames under NetWare 6.5 SP5 or above for the NC737i. I checked the ldi files for both the HP (cp008313.nlm) and the Broadcom (nw_odi32-3.70.zip) and I do not see a way to do turn on Jumbo frames. I used the keyword jumbo=9014 and tried ping it worked at 40and 400 bytes and fialed at 4000 bytes.
Thanks

Re: Proliant DL380 G5 embedded NIC NC373i Jumbo Frames
Jumbo MTU size of up to 9000 bytes are supported. Use the bx2.lan driver.
Can we please come up with a standard byte size for jumbo frames? Intel wants an MTU size of 9014.

Re: Proliant DL380 G5 embedded NIC NC373i Jumbo Frames
IMO the "cannonical" JumboFrame size is the one picked by Alteon years ago for their GbE interfaces - 9000 bytes. That there has been a proliferation of "other" JumboFrame sizes can perhaps be attributed to de jure standards bodies being unwilling to go beyond the traditional 1500 byte MTU.
Also, keep in mind that the switch(es) may need to have jumbo frames enabled on them, and the enabling JF is generally an "entire broadcast domain or nothing" sort of thing.
