Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
That is a good question. I'm actually fielding this for someone, and I know that they'll have no idea. What can I tell them to look for on the machine to identify the version?
Or would it be easier for me to just ask the question for all (3) versions?

Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
well in fact there are 5 models (G1 ... G5)
you can see the model in the system management homepage?
on BIOS too, in ilo too
or using the serial number go to this website
http://h50001.www5.hp.com/ewc/EntResultRouter
and enter the Serial number you're going to get that information also.
regards

Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
To complicate this as much as possible, the server won't boot (so no access to System Management or the POST screen) and the person assures me she can find nothing anywhere on the server that identifies itself as a serial number.
Is there a "generic" DL380?

Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
If this is DL380G2 or greater, it should have an iLO processor in it that could be connected to and used to read the Integrated Management Log.

Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
My abiding question, however, is whether or not this part is proprietary? The reason I ask is because the server belongs to a small privately-funded school with extremely limited financial means (the server itself was donated and is therefore lacking any warranty or support package). Due to its limited budget, I'd like to know if I can simply replace the part in question with a 92mm smart fan to which I have access?
Thanks again!

Re: Proliant DL380 Power Supply Fan
what you are telling us is that the part you have is not Hp branded right?
if so
there is no guarrantee that the part can work you can try on your own

you know ho recommends to use their parts yo avoid issues
on google that part is about 60$
