Proliant DL380 SmartArray

We have just got a proliant DL380 with smart array 5i and 76GB disk.

I notice that there is no fault tolerance setup, the server is running with RAID 0 only.

I was wondering am I still be able to convert the RAID 0 to RAID 5 without destroy the data inside. I prefer RAID 0+1 but since this is already running RAID 0 and we do not have any additional disk so RAID 0+1 is already not possible.

The worst thing is most of the volume is already created over there.

Just wondering I am not familiar with compaq server, How can I convert from RAID 0 to RAID 5

To convert from RAID0 to RAID5 without data loss you'll need one additional drive since RAID5 needs that additional disk space for storing redundancy information.

The convertion can be done from the drive array configuration utility (ACU) while windows is running. Or you can boot from the SmartStart cd and run ACU from there.

Hi,

Sorry, but surely you need 3 disks (minimum) to convert to raid 5 ?? don't want to put a downer on the solution...
