Proliant DL380 will not boot from SmartStart CD

Any tips on how to boot from the CD forcefully. The CD drive is functional but the server will not boot from SmartStart CD.
I tried different versions of the CD.
We are trying to install the system partiton on the server before upgrading to Win 2K.
Any tips or pointers are highly appreciated.

problem might be related to CD drive or I/O
or seettings

try diskettes for now instead CD

Anyway just make sure the drive is functional by putting the CD-ROM drive in another server, also trying with the media you are using in a known good server.

thanks all for all the advice.
Server is now up and running.
Apparently the CD-ROM was the problem. It has a mind of its own as to when it will read media. should be replaced soon.

used other CD drive.
mysteriously the old one now works and boots.
strange, but happy
