Proliant DL380G4 with MSA30 - adding MSA60?

I currently have DL380G4 with MSA30. I wanted to add MSA60 with 12 SAS (450GB) drives. My vendor sent me P800 controller, but I just realized that P800 is a PCI-E controller and i only have PCI-X slots.. WHAT TO DO?

1) is there a different riser that has one PCI-X and one PCI-E slot?

2) is there another PCI-X controller that would work with MSA30? I only found a riser card that has two PCI-X slots, so no way to use the old PCI-E controller with MSA30.

3) return p800 and get p600 with a cable that will connect MSA60. Will this even work? Does p600 support logical partition larger than 2TB like p800 does?

Re: Proliant DL380G4 with MSA30 - adding MSA60?

sorry, on question 2, I meant, is there any PCI-Express controllers compatable with MSA30.. if I change the riser from PCI-X to PCI-E, I will need to figure out how to get MSA30 connected back to the server, since th eoriginal controller is PCI-X and I won't be able to use it after I change the riser to accomodate the new P800.

You need to look at the Quickspecs of all the components:

DL380 G4:

Yes, there's an optional PCI-E riser with two slots.

MSA60:

Most compatible controllers are PCI-E, but it is compatible with SmartArray P600 too.

SmartArray P600 quickspecs:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12247_div/12247_div.html

MSA60 listed as compatible

MSA30 Quickspecs:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11738_div/11738_div.html

So the cheapest option is to return the P800 and ask for the correct controller for your case, the P600.

Vadim - I have the same setup and trying to attach an MSA60 to my DL380 G4. Were you able to make this work with the new PCI-Express riser cage and the P800? Trying to solve this as well and hoping to learn from your experience. thanks!

yes, the riser card fixed the problem.
