Proliant DL380G6 - RAID5 problem

Hello,

I am having trouble configuring three 2 TB SATA Hard Drives in a RAID5 configuration (that is, 4 TB of actual disk space) on a Proliant DL380G6 server.
Upon reboot, 2 of the HDDs are being disabled, so the array fails.

If a combine any 2 SATA disks in any other way (ex. RAID10, RAID1, RAID0) they work perfectly.

Any ideea why this happens?

in the specification guide DL 380 G6 support this storage configuration :

i think the 2 TB disk are not supported.

did you buy it directly from HP ??

I didn't buy them directly from HP.

They are in fact three 2 TB LFF SATA Drives. I tried the same configuration on a P800 controller and it worked. It seems I have to rethink my implementation.

From what i conclude from your mail, LFF SATA drives are NOT SUPPORTED. so there is no guarantee that if I installed 6x1TB LFF SATA drives in a RAID5 Array they will work.

If you have further information, I would appreciate it.

in my case, if i make some configuration i use HP configurator

==> Configure ==> (select your model {DL 380 G6 ]) and them you will be able to see what is possible to put into the server.

if i'm not sure, them i always conct HP for some information.

Do you have the " P410i Zero Memory Controller" in the DL380 G6?

If so, that's the reason you can not create a R5 LUN and you are able to create R1, R0.

I can't really identify if my P410i Controller is Zero Memory, 256 MB Memory or 512 MB Memory. In the array configuration, it only specifies P410i Controller. Does this cache refer to an integrated cache on the controller, or a battery-backed cache module, plugged into the motherboard ?

I think in the case of the DL380 G6 and P410i it is both. It is a battery/cache module and since the P410i is embedded in the system board, the cache and battery would plug in to the systemboard as well.

You can check it visually but if you have ACU/ADU installed it should tell you if there is a BBWC included.
