Proliant DL385 G1

Can anyone tell me if this G1 version of the DL385 supports (officially or unofficially) Windows Server 2008 64 bit? If it is official, can you direct me to the documents?

thanks
Doug

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

Yes, it is offically supported. Whenever you have this kind of questions, you can go to hp.com, select download drivers and software, type the product name DL385, select the product and then you have an option to select the operating system, these are the OS supported:

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

I know the generic DL385 supports Win2008 but when I drill down, it looks like the G2, G5 and G6 support it. The G1 (or just DL385) does not specifically say yes for the x64 bit version on the comparison chart.

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

Doug,

This quickspecs link seems to indicate it doesn't but you might need the exact server model xxxxxx-xxx (if the conf hasn't been changed) to be sure.

The windows server catalog also says nope:

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

The latest quickspec available was released on 2007, at this time windows server 2008 was not released and was not supported, the best way to be up to date and check what operating system is currently supported right now is checking on the website as indicated previously. Just update the BIOS to the latest version and install 2008 it is going to work.

These are the Operating Systems Supported by a Proliant DL385 G1

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

Doug,

My apologies. There definitely is conflicting documentation with the HP links. As Gary indicated, checking the BIOS upgrade confirms support:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=428936&prodNameId=3288114&swEnvOID=4024&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-067fbdabcbcb471fb7e292f369

Type: BIOS - System ROM
Version: 2006.03.01 (B) (16 Apr 2008)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for 64-bit Extended Systems, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 W32, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64
File name: cp009102.exe (1,007 KB)

Driver links:

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

Did this ever get resolved? One thing I noticed is that the link to the (B) version of this BIOS brings up cp009102 - which, when I try to run it - comes up at the original version from 03/06 - not 04/08.
Does anyone know why this might be? Did the (B) version get recalled?
Thanks, h

Re: Proliant DL385 G1

If its of any use, i recently downloaded the HP version of vmware ESXi4.0, and successfully installed Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 as a virtual machine on a DL385 G1. I assumed that it would fail, as the G1 does not report VT, but it runs fine. The cpus are 280s, revision JH9-E6.
