Proliant DL585 G1 CPU upgrade

I attempted to replace two Opteron 880 CPUs with two Opteron 885s.The CPUs are recognized during POST, but subsequently an error appears that the CPUs are unsupported.
The BIOS is up to date. These are 'generic' CPUs (not from another HP as far as I can tell). I simply unplugged the 880s from the CPU board and installed the 885s in the same CPU boards.

Re: Proliant DL585 G1 CPU upgrade

Hello Steve,

Install one cpu (885) at a time to confirm the cpus are working fine(while you do this also note down there stepping level). If they are working fine individually check if there is a stepping level difference of more than one between the CPUs(stepping level of more than one is not suitable to have more than one CPUs). If this too is passed then you need to get in touch with the support team for a BIOS update, as many a times the latest update may not be available on the website or if that too is updated they might help you with replacing the motherboard.
