Proliant Drive Storage requirements help needed
Hi all,
Can someone advise me on the components required to get 20 drives operational in a DL380G9 server.
Spec I have identified at the moment:
1 x Proliant DL380 G9 Server (752689-B21)
1 x Smart Array controller P440ar/2GB with FBWC (Comes with the base server above)
Additional items to order
20 x 300GB 12G SAS 15K SFF drives (759208-B21)
1 x 12Gb SAS Expander with cables (727250-B21)
2 x DL380 G9 8SFF Bay2 cage/backplane kit (768857-B21)
My Question.
The server comes with both a Media cage and 8SFF Drive cage Kit, I need 3 8SFF cages to house 20 drives.
Can I simply remove the media cage, fit two additional 8SFF drive cages with the SAS Expander to be able to install the 20 x SFF drives? or would I need anything else to make this possible?

Re: Proliant Drive Storage requirements help needed
That looks to be what you will need, and yes you just remove the media cage and insert the drive cage. Another option is to do a Config To Order and start out with the 24SFF system.
You could also look at one of the pre-configured smartbuy systems setup for 24SFF drives I think the second one listed here is what your after

Re: Proliant Drive Storage requirements help needed
Hello@Mark,
Jimmy has given excellent information, I too agree that the HP pre-configured SmartBuy systems with the 24SFF drives would be the best option for you, that way it is already to go and no altering is needed, plus you will have four more drives for upgrading in the future.
I would also recommend looking at the HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 E5-2650v3 2.3GHz 10-core 2P 32GB-R P440ar 24 SFF 800W RPS Server/S-Buy (792468-S01). This HP Server ships with six hard drives to begin with, you can also add the additional drives to the order by clicking on the drives you want in the recommended accessories, supplies, and services section on the web site, this model is less expensive than the one you are looking at. We also have the HP Server Smartbuy web site that has other server options that you can take a look at.
Please let me know if this helps and what else I can do for you or if I can connect you to an HP Server specialist for more configurations.
