Proliant ML 110 Does not take registered RAM?

I took over the administration of a network served by a recent vintage Proliant ML110.

It shocked me to find out that the ML110 takes PC3200 ECC RAM, but UNregistered!

Can we get a firmware/BIOS fix for this?

Surely this is a strange design decision.

Re: Proliant ML 110 Does not take registered RAM?

Thanks for the observation, Oleg.

My point is: there is NO inherent limitation in the Intel E7210 chipset that the RAM used must be unregistered.

I think there are quite a lot of servers out there with this chipset that employ registered RAM.

Is it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE that an updated BIOS cannot fix this, or is this another one of those "proprietary" schemes?
