Proliant ML150 G6 E5504 - Power problems

Hi all,

I've this server connected to an APC RS 1000 UPS (1000VA), it has been working for about 8 months with no issues. However, since a few weeks ago, every time there is a power outage, or power spike the server will simply turn off, just as if it isn't connected to an UPS. I thought this was an UPS problem so I changed the UPS, but the problem remains.

When the power returns, the power suply led (the left one) will turn green, and the led on the power button will turn yellow (all the other leds are off). However, when I try to turn the server on it will not power on. The only remedy is to remove the power cord, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect again. After this if I push the power button it will turn on without issues.

Since I had only one power supply on this server, I've ordered a second one. The problem remains. Now I have to remove the two power cords for the server to recover! I've tried changing the power supply slot, using only the new power supply, without success.

I've checked the log in the BIOS and I get lots of events:

I don't think it matters, but I have Debian Squeeze running on this machine. It has four hard disks (2x2TB + 2x80GB). Also, I've followed the troubleshooting  procedures on the site and checked the leds inside the server. To no avail.

Sound like your Server is connected to a circuit not protected.

It is possible to connect to the UPS and check the messages logs ?

Another possibility is that you have a UPS software that is killing the server when a message arrives.  ( it is possible to perform the same test while the server is not connected to the network ? ).

Another option is to run a full SPP upgrade to ensure the latest versions are been applied ?
