Proliant ML330 diagnostic test - scsi

How long should the scsi tests take on a ML330 g2? I'm having trouble installing netware 6.5 so run the diagnostic test on the smart start cd. It's been running now for over an hour, running the scsi sequential read test. This is at 2% and the scsi drive doesn't appear to be doning anything. The run time for the test keeps incrementing so I don't think the server has frozen.

Thanks

Alex:

Some of the HDD tests can take a while (depending on the size of the disk) but 2% after an hour seems extreme! Try rebooting the server and starting the test again... if it is still going to sleep, there either is a configuration error or the controler / drives have a problem. (take a read of this: http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19581.html ... though I am not sure if it will help you )

What version of the SS CD are you using?

You could try a new version of the diagnostics CD? Here is a link to the ISO: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21028.html
Enjoy!

Re: Proliant ML330 diagnostic test - scsi

Ok, it's been about three hours now and no progress. I've cancelled the test.

SmartStart version is 7.00 The server is a ML330 G3 with a single 36gb scsi drive.

Unfortunately I seem unable to install an os on the server, so I don't think I can use the tool you mentioned.

I've already loaded the latest bios, I will go about ensuring everything else is up to date. And maybe revert the an earlier bios.

Thanks,

Re: Proliant ML330 diagnostic test - scsi

Hi,

As suggested above use the utility above mentioned by john.
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19581.html
This is Hard Drive Identifier.
Because some of the hdd shipped are faulty by hp. So we can verify the same.

Use ADU under the Smartstart then check the information regardign the HDD and Controller on server. It can help you.

Re: Proliant ML330 diagnostic test - scsi

Hi Alex,

You said you only have one drive on the server. Have you configured it to be part of RAID 0 (JBOD) first through ORCA (Options ROM Configuration for Arrays)?

Could you also make sure that the Firmware on the SCSI drive is the latest, if not what happens when you try to upgrade it?

Re: Proliant ML330 diagnostic test - scsi

This server doesn't have an array controller. It's just the scsi controller. It looks like the problem is a faulty controller/drive.

Thanks for your help.
