Proliant ML350 G6

Is it my understanding that this server will not work with non HP drives? I purchased this server as it was a good deal and it did not mention anywhere in the specs that only HP drives will work with it. My small company cannot afford to pay the ridiculous markup HP has on their drives.

Re: Proliant ML350 G6

There is nothing proprietary about HP drives, except for possibly the trays being used on them. The connector on the backplane, whether LFF or SFF is the industry standard connector for these drives.

Obviously, HP will not support the use of drives which are not HP branded.
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

I second Terry,

Offcourse most likely it will work.
SCSI is SCSI, SATA is SATA, SAS is SAS.
After all HP also get's its drives from WD , Seagate etc.
You'll have to find a source for the trays/carriers.
(from defective drives or replace small drive for large).

Part of the extra price for HP products lie in reliability. But also HP products can fail.
Be aware Support from HP will be limited when problems DO occur.
