Proliant ML350 Ultrium 1 LTO-1 tape drive won't clean, why??

Our tape drive is quite old and recently auto-ejects the orange tape cleaner without doing anything.

Both the Tape Error and Clean orange lights are flashing. Putting in the orange tape cleaner leads to an instant ejection.

1. Should I get a new tape cleaner??
2. Reboot the server??

Have you tried the tape drive firmware update ?

Tape drive is an HP LTO Ultrium-1 drive, quite old.

Trying now to locate a tape drive driver.

Current driver according to Windows is 5.1, 1/23/2008, from Symantec for Backup Exec 12.0.

Had some issues with the drive and Backup Exec last year which were resolved by using this driver, so I'm loath to change it. I will ask Symantec if they have a new driver.

Nothing has changed on the server other than rebooting a few days ago after MS updates.
