Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

Hi all,

all best in new year to all and hopefully also to my server. There is something wrong with our server for the last few days. I'm receiving ASR and IML logs this:

1 ASR Detected by System ROM 1/3/2008 8:07AM 1/3/2008 8:07AM 1
2 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x0000007A (0xC07AF758, 0xC000000E, 0xF5EEB005, 0x6721D860)) 1/3/2008 7:56AM 1/3/2008 7:56AM 1
3 ASR Detected by System ROM 1/3/2008 4:16AM 1/3/2008 4:16AM 1
4 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC000000E, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x0385D000)) 1/3/2008 4:05AM 1/3/2008 4:05AM 1
5 ASR Detected by System ROM 1/1/2008 1:20AM 1/1/2008 1:20AM 1

and there is nothing in any of windows event logs.

The server is ML350 G5, Windows 2003 SBS SP1, latest HP PSP 7.91a and latest microcodeтАЩs.

Did somebody experienced something similar and also found a solution?

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

if you have a minidump file, you could post it here or upload it somewhere.

Any third-party HW?

And is the firmware up-to-date?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/228753

0x00000077 (0xC000000E

0xC000000E, or STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE: the drive went unavailable, possibly a bad hard drive, disk array, and/or controller card.

STOP: 0x0000007A also indicates errors on the disks.

Run ADU and generate a report too.

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

Thx for so quick answers.

First answer to Mi6t0:
Unfortunately no dump file is created at this ASR. There is also no third party HW installed into this server and firmware is all up to date.

And now to vcespon:
OK, I'll check the ADU again and will upload the results. But the last time I ran it everything was OK. The odd thing for me is also this, that no errors (not even disk or array errors) were logged in Windows event log or at HP agents.

I have also moved page file to another disk partition and then move it back to boot partition. It helped for few days but after that the error returned.

Maybe I should change the disk array controller to see if this helps?

I ran ADU and here are the results. Everything looks ok :-(

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

Smart Array 641 firmware 2.80

All disks show:
"SCSI Bus Reset Sent/Recieved"
"Target Bus Phase Sequence Failure"
13 days ago, but the blue screen is from today
No internal errors on disks.

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

Yes, it's possible. I've been battling whit this server for about 14. days now and I thought I have solved the problem by moving page file circa 10 days ago, but it look's like I didn't.

Here are the previous logs from HP IML:

6 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC000000E, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x012A8000)) 1/1/2008 1:09AM 1/1/2008 1:09AM 1

9 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0xFD732230, 0xFD732394, 0xE094B752)) 12/19/2007 4:30PM 12/19/2007 4:30PM 1
10 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0xFD7A01C0, 0xFD7A0324, 0xE094B752)) 12/19/2007 4:09PM 12/19/2007 4:09PM 1
11 Blue Screen Trap (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC000000E, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x01838000))

Can you say from the ADU what is wrong?

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

0x000000F4 also indicates SCSI transfer problems:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330100

I would request a SCSI backplane and cable replacement and run ADU after that.

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

Ok, you can try following:

Go in control panel -> system -> advanced -> Startup and Recovering ->settings -> set it to smalldump and wait for the next reboot.

Yes, it could be a HDD problem, but if there is such one, it would be noticed from the controller.
I think it is a good idea to check a minidump.

Otherwise you can download the smartstartCD, start insight diagnostics and make a full test with a lot of loops :) Just to make sure if hardware is "healthy".

Re: Proliant ML350 g4 - ASR

I've already checked for minidump, but unfortunately server resets without making one. This option was on from the beginning.

I changed Smart Array controller 641 and cable from the controller to disk cage. Now we wait to see if this solved the problem. In the meanwhile I ran another ADU and here are the results.

Thanks for now guys.
