Proliant ML370 G4 + 3Com 3C996B-T

I get the dreaded "unsupported PCI card detected" error on my Proliant ML370 G4 with 3Com 3C996B-T PCI-X cards. I have tried other suggestions from these forms (updated firmware, disabling HyperThreading) with no luck. Are there any fixes to this or do I have to go out and purchase another set of Gigabit NICs?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Have any of those suggestions ever worked for anybody?

The normal solution is to get a different nic. This appears to be the same message you'll get as described here:

The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

I already planned for the worst and ordered a new set of cards (NC7771) which hopefully won't have this issue.
Thanks
