I tried adding a new disk to a RAID 5 array containing 3 disks. I went through the ACU procedure to expand the volume - it went through the process and the new disk became useable.
I now want to add the new storage to the current "d" drive as new space. I can't seem to do it through the ACU or W2K Disk Management.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Solution
Casey:
Be sure you are using the latest version of the ACU:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/19658.html
Be sure you have the latest bios installed on your SA 5300 Controller.
Here is a link to the process you need to perform on Win2K:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/servers/proliantstorage/drives-enclosures/Procedures%20of%20expanding%20active%20volume%20with%20W2000.pdf
Here is a link tot he ACU Users Guide:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/user_reference_guides/239449-004_rev4_us.pdf
I posted a good walk through as well here if you need:

I hope this helps you! -john

Re: Proliant ML530 G@ - SmartArray 5300
John - your help is very much appreciated. The diskpart.exe utility did what it needed to do and I now have the free space on "D".
On a related note - when I go in to ACU I get the status message #785:
Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on logical drive 1 ( RAID 5 in array A). If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drive. When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drive will improve.
Do you know what this is referring to and if it will eventually complete on it's own?
Again, thanks very much for your help.
Casey.

Re: Proliant ML530 G@ - SmartArray 5300
Yes... the message is telling you that the controller needs to perform a set of scans and leveling to optimize the performance of the RAID 5.
It is safe to "ignore".
After a while the "speed" will pick up as the cache accelorator becomes active. Just be sure to leave the server on for like an hour or so and the ACU will not show the warning.
You are good to go.
G'luck! -john
