Proliant ML530 error message

For the first time in 4 years that I get this error on the server and it restarts itself

Broadcast message from root(console) on cps1 February 09, 14:36 2005

Emergency shutdown due to an ASR or Thermal Conditions...

I checked the fans inside, thinking it might have gotten hot, but all 6 fans are working. Does anyone know what caused such an error and is there anything to do to avoid recurrence.

Re: Proliant ML530 error message

Thermal messages based temp are on the internal temp of the server. if the outside temp in the room it is in gets hot enough or the airflow through the server is restricting the heat disipation you can get these.
You can run offline diags on the fans to see if any have a fault.

If you get an ASR that is based on the timer response from the bios and the Insight Manager it will shutdown (and if set to reboot) it means the System Manager Agent did not respond to the ASR within 10 minutes (by default) and the server shut down.
You can run diagnostics on this as well.

You should look at the IML and see what the recorded event was.

You can turn off the ASR in the bios but if you are likely just masking a problem.
Enjoy!
