Proliant ML530 with SmartArray 3200
I have 2 RAID1 , on 4 9.1 Gb Ultra2 scsi drives (in the internal disk cage). One disk on the one of the RAID1 fail (no power, nolight). A removed the drive and put a new one in. The second when the controller tried to start the rebuilt process, I lost the second RAID1 (both disk went kaput !). I waited for the the rebuilt to finish and the second RAID1 never came back. I was going to wait the next day to do a reboot but during the night the server rebooted by itself. The second RAID1 came back OK. But now the new drive that I replace the day before, as gome donw again. Did anybody see that before.
Thanks
P.S. I don't think that I have the latest firmware for my SmartArray controller , but I never had any problem with that server before.

Re: Proliant ML530 with SmartArray 3200
Barring any physical errors existing on the new drive, you may have a back plane problem with power being delivered to the drive in that slot. If you can test both the old drive as well as the new one in another cage, you can determine if the drives are bad or if it's the cage in the server.
BTW... you can get the latest BIOS for your Controler here:
