Proliant ML570 System Fans seem to run more noisy after BIOS upgrade.

Hi,

I've recently done a BIOS upgrade to our Proliant ML 570 G2 system and noticed that our system fans seem to have gotten louder. I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if they managed to figure out the cause/resolution ? the noise level is tolerable but I'm more concerned about burning out the system fans quicker with them running faster.

Looking at the system rom BIOS history for the ML570 G2, there doesn't appear to be any changes to the fan speeds.

I would think the problem therefore lies with the operating system side, namely the health driver which controls the fan speed on most HP/Compaq models.

The health driver is part of the product support pack for whatever O/S you have installed. Please go to the following link, select your server model and the O/S you have installed. You will be taken to the relevant section. The product support pack is normally at the top of the page provided.

Thanks for the reply however I don't see a "Health" System or driver to install in the support pack list. That was actually something we thought of before but could not determine which (if any) driver controls the system fans and which one it would be to update etc..

Any idea ?

It's bundled as part of the System Management Controller Driver or the Advanced version (Depends on server model).

Go back to the download link and get the correct management driver for your O/S. For example for Windows 2000 the HP Proliant Advanced System Management Controller Driver would be CP004194.EXE or CP003714.EXE (Non Advanced).

These are listed at the bottom of the Product support pack link. (E.G The Windows 2000 link is given below).
