Proliant ML570

We have a Proliant running most of our core services and I am trying to setup the ability to add incoming faxes into the server. What kind of card do I need to accomplish this? We have some PCI express expansion slots free but I have never heard of a modem with that interface. Looking for any and all assistance I can get.

Thank you much.

Hello There.

There are several PCI Express Modems.

You can take a lot at this one:
LSI PCIe x1 High-Speed 56K International SoftModem (FH970AA)

You can find more info on:

Re: Proliant ML570

Thanks so much for your reply Jose. Are you sure that would fit into our Proliant ML570? I noticed on the Compatible Products list it did not mention anything about any line of servers. I just want to be sure because this server also has what looks like 2 open PCI slots but slightly bigger than what I am accustomed to seeing in a desktop. Again thank you for the reply.

Re: Proliant ML570

Those slots are Standard Height/Length.

What is your operative system?

Re: Proliant ML570

The PCI/E look standard but directly adjacent are white slots that look like normal PCI but are longer. The OS is SBS 2003 Standard.

Re: Proliant ML570

Those longer PCI white ports are 64-bits.

You can use it if you have a PCI modem with 32-bits pci.

Re: Proliant ML570

Remember:The PCI-X bus is not compatible with the older 5-volt cards but newer 3.3-volt PCI cards will work in a PCI-X slot. So your PCI card must be able to work with 3.3V.

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X for more PCI-X info.

Re: Proliant ML570

Jose,

Thank you for the detailed response. The links you provided gave me some much needed insight on the PCI interface. After reading up the modem you suggested in your initial post will not work as my only free slots are PCI-X and PCI-e x4. Do you have any other suggestions for modems? I am now leaning towards something that is PCI 3.0 but alot of the sites are not listing what revision these PCI cards are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Proliant ML570

If you have a PCIe x4 free slot, you can use it for a x1, x2 or x4 PCIe Card.

And if you have an PCI-X free slot, you can use any PCI 3.3V card on it. Please look at "Conventional hardware specifications" in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conventional_PCI. If you have a PCI modem that works with 3.3V you can use it on your PCI-X slot.

In few words, if you have a PCI card that fits in one of your PCI / PCI-X slots that will work. If it fits, the card will autonegotiate and will be recognized. If it dont fit, it's beacuse you have a 5V card and PCI-X only supports 3.3v Cards.

I hope this help.
