Proposal for customer DL580G4 / DL380G5
Hello Everyone.
I'm currently writing a proposal for one of my customers. Here is what they need.
4 servers running Vmware ESX3.0.1 each need:
- 16GB of RAM
- two Dual core/Quad core CPU's (preferable Quadcore)
- 2x 4GBps FC HBA for SAN connection
- 2x 4ports Gpbs NIC
I'm wondering how to configure the HBA's?
All HBA's need to work at their maximun speed so they need to be installed in the correct slots without any busses working at lower speeds. Can you help me whith this?
Also, can anybody tell me if I should go for the Dualcore DL580G4 or the Quadcore DL380G5?
Busspeed is much higer in de DL380G5 but the expandability is almost nothing.
Any suggestions?

Re: Proposal for customer DL580G4 / DL380G5
Hello,
the busspeed of the slots should be no big problem, I would prefer PCI-e. But aware of multi-core CPUs: It's better if two cores share the front side bus, then four cores. Take a look at AMD, their Hypertransport scale better that Intels FSB.
Hope that helps,
Best regards,
Patrick

I'd suggest using the sizer at http://www.hp.com/go/vmware --> VMware Sizer where you can supply information about the workloads to be hosted and recommended configurations and the expected utilization to result.
