Question about upgrading server firmware.

Group,

Is there anyone who can help explain to me how I go about upgrading the firmware on a Proliant DL380 G3 Server?

I have downloaded, extracted and burned the iso files for the Smart Start CD's as well as the Firmware Management CD's but I'm not quite exactly sure of the steps that need to be taken in order to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Doug you can select any server and navigate for Updates
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html

Under Categories you can find Firmware CD
Under Revision history see for newer Firmware CD 7.40B
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/revision/9014.html

Verify Line
For a specific list of FW included with this CD ├в ┬ж
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/WebDoc/firmware/firmware740content.pdf

Every CD has release date also (20 Dec 05) for 7.40 B

Every newer Update after that date, not a part of CD
So additional Review needed from general downloadable categories.
Sometimes they marked NEW !

For DL380 G4 7.40 B would be enough.
CD is easy to navigate enough to boot and follow up screen, mainly scan for Newer Updates, show newer Updates, select them and Update

Smart start Cd only for assistance for Install, Diagnostics and PSP

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Would you be able to explain to me what the step by step instructions are to properly do a server firmware upgrade on this server using Redhat linux enterprise 4?

Im kinda confused as to exactly how to go about this.

Thanks

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Redhat Linux enterprise or the equivelent to CentOS 4.2 as far as the operating systems from the list. The Closest choices are Redhat enterprise but i plan to use Centos but thats not a choice and I want to make sure i pick the correct firmware upgrade.

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Group,

Is there anyway to upgrade the server firmware without having to rely on the operating system to unpack a file flash the rom and then clean up as indicated in the instructions page?

Is there anyway to upgrade the server firmware like is done when you upgrade the firmware on the lights out card (just tell it where the file is and click submit and it does it for you automatically)?

Thanks

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Doug,
maybe I didn't understand your question, but I think KOV already answer your question:

Firmware Maintenance CD is OS independent !
You need to boot server from Firmware Maintenance CD and do update...

Re: Question about upgrading server firmware.

Question....

Why is my DL380 G3 NOT a supported server in the list of supported servers for firmware maintenance cd version 7.40b?

Does that just mean that the firmware maintenance cd version 7.30 is the current and upto date version for my server?

Anyway im updated to P29 9-15-04 on the server firmware and I have my lights out card up to date at 1.82.

Now it's off to figure out how to update my NIC card's and Storage Controller firmware since my the firmware maintenance cd didnt detect them.
