RAID 0 to RAID 5 Migration on DL380 G2

Hello everybody

I've got a DL380 G2 server with the following hard drive configurations.
3 x U3 36.4GB in a RAID 5
1 x U3 36.4GB in a RAID 0

I wish to migrate the RAID 0 to a RAID 5.

I have 2 spare disks U3 36.4GB which were removed from another RAID 5 during an upgrade. Can these be used in this new RAID without anything being done to them? They have not been touched since they were removed.

Is the best method of migrating to install the 2 extra drives, then open the ACU and use this to migrate?

Thanks for your help

Hi Pete,

Please find the ACU document.
This should help you doing that without any problems.

You need to expand the ARRAY (RAID0) by adding these 2 drives. Then extend the logical drive and then migrate the ARRAY to RAID 5. All this can be done from ACU.

Re: RAID 0 to RAID 5 Migration on DL380 G2

Step1: Install 2 additional drives.
Step2: Expand Logical Drive.
Step3: Migrate RAID.

Note: First take precautionary backup.

Good Luck!!

After migrating from RAID0 to RAID5, do I need to re-install the Windows OS and applications?

Nops, not at all, you do not need to re-install the OS or anything.
