RAID 1 Retrofitable???

Hello all,

I have a customer that has several DL=360 G2's with Smart Array 5i controllers. However the servers were only ordered with 1 HDD. One of these HDD's has died and this server will have to be re-built. The other servers are OK, but we would like to add a second HDD and do the mirror. Can we do this without blowing away the data on the server? I.E. can we implement a RAID 1 array after the server has been built?

Yes, you can do a raid level migration (raid 0 to raid 1).
The truth is out there, but I forgot the URL..

Re: RAID 1 Retrofitable???

Just add the second or third hot plug hard drive to the systems, launch the RAID utility and join the new drives to the existing array.
Of course this assumes the original drive was also hot plug and was attached to the RAID controller
