RAID 1 SERVER PROBLEM

Hi,

I have a HP Proliant G3 ML330 with 2 Hard Drives in a RAID 1 setup. Looking at the array utility (F8 on startup) my primary hard drive is degraded. I cannot boot in to windows 2000 server.
Does anyone know how I can break the mirror and what I need to do to create the mirror with a replacement drive so that I retain all my data

Replace the Faulty HDD & let the Raid rebuild.
you need not break the Mirror.

Another question, why could I not boot from the second drive as I thought that the drive was a carbon copy?

Sorry I missed that part.
Yup, You are correct, the server should boot from the other HDD.
Does the ACU shows BOTH HDD as degraded ?? that is an issue then !!!

:) Then Check the Boot Controller Order & the Boot Device order for any changes.
If this is set correctly, It should boot.

Other than that,.. Do you get any error message ?

Could be that the in reality, bith drives had problems and you lost the data or the data has become corrupted.

How far does the machine get into the OS Boot? Not at all? You get a Windows error message? or a Blue Screen? The Windows install can be repaired if you get part way. If you get no where, that is 'no operating system found, then it would seem you lost it.
You could then try leaving the old drive in place and add a new drive to a vacent dlot, reinstall Windows and see if any data is visable on the old drive.

Hi all
The RAID was incorrectly set up and so the second drive had no data on it.
I managed to setup the primary failed drive on an XP unit and got all the data from it.
A full restore with RAID setup correctly in progress now.
