RAID 1 Support on Legacy mode on DL380 Gen 9 with P440ar Controller

Hi,

I'd like to know if HP have withdrawn RAID 1 support on Legacy mode?

I'm helping a customer using DL380 Gen 9 with P440ar Controller, and I was told by the customer who's engage with your TAC, that RAID is only supported on UEFI mode. They are trying to install a customized Ubuntu OS which requires Legacy mode with RAID 1.

Can I please get some clarification here? Thank you in advance.

Note: I've seen this post that is somehow related.

This applies to the built-in B140i only, this controller in RAID mode is only supported in UEFI mode.

It does not affect any other smart array controller.

Hope this helps!

To make sure I understand it right? with P440ar Controller? Legacy mode with RAID 1 is supported?

The B140i is a dynamic smart array controller, depends on BIOS firmware and OS drivers (software based RAID, more or less) and is not supported in legacy mode. In legacy mode it has to run in AHCI mode like a normal SAS/SATA controller without RAID. The smart arrays (like P440ar) are hardware, not really care about the OS, so there is no such restriction.

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the confirmation, you've certainly cleared the confusion in relation to TAC statement, despite knowing the server has P440ar Controller. :)

"RAID is only supported in UEFI mode" relates to the embedded 'B' series Dynamic Smart Array.  The 'P' series controllers work in both UEFI and Legacy boot modes.

When changed to Legacy Boot, the 'B' series controller becomes a standard SATA controller.
