RAID - Can't extend array to new HD

I am not able to extend a logical drive on a 431 controller under the Windows 2000 server OS. Why? I have a single array consisting of 3 drives and want to add a fourth. After successfully expanding the array I get the warnings about data loss with W2K when attempting to extend the logical drive to include the new space. Where do I go from here.

Re: RAID - Can't extend array to new HD

Under Windows 2000 Advanced Server O/S, you can extend a simple or extended volume only if the volume was created as a dynamic volume. You cannot extend a simple or extended volume that was upgraded from basic to dynamic. In the future, you may want to ensure that when you first install a server using Windows 2000, create the initial disk or volume as "Dynamic" and you should not run into this limitation of the o/s. For more information, search on extend volume under Disk Manager Help screen.
