RAID Controller utilities

Is there a way round this???
I am trying to expand a logical drive in an existing RAID 5 array. The raid controller is a smart 221, and it will not let me expand as it seems to require a battery backed up raid controller and IF there is a power cut it tells me that I might suffer data loss during the reconfigure. Is there a way I can achieve the expansion ???

smart array 221 does not support this feature..the only way around is to backup data...purchase a controller that does and then restore..sorry! :)
