RAID5 Ready for rebuild

Good Morning All,

I have replaced a drive in one of our 'ProLiant DL380G4' arrays, and the status is currently set to 'Ready for rebuild'.

I've attached the diagnostic report for the array, can anyone point out why the array is failing to rebuild?

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

Hi Please upgrade firmware for the 6i and smart aray 6400 controllers and reboot the machine. The rebuild should start.

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

Thank you for the fast response.

I've downloaded the following and will install the updates within the next 2 hours:

6i: 2.84 (A)
6400: 2.84 (A)

Hi Craig,

make sure you reboot the server after installing the FW.

Cheers

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

I have updated the firmware for the devices, rebooted the server, however the status still stands at 'ready for rebuild'.

Are we missing something?

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

hi Craig

where do you see "ready for rebuild"?

I only see "Logical drive 1 status = Ready for recovery"

can you try this too

if you OS is W2000 update ADU to 7.6 and if it is W2003 update to 8.1

7.6

8.1

that version is too old and upload the ADU again

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

Good afternoon,

I have attached a new report created using the updated software.

The drive did change to 'rebuiling' earlier today, when last checked, it reached 19%; when checking a little while after, the status has reverted back to 'waiting for rebuild'.

Re: RAID5 Ready for rebuild

hi Craig

yes It is in the MSA20

"Controller: MSA20 in 01
Device: Logical Drive 1
Message: The logical drive is queued for rebuilding"

the reason why the HDD is not rebuilding is there are read errors in another 2 HDDs

Physical Drive 1:1
Recovers Failed Read 0x33b8Hex) - 13240(Decimal)

Physical Drive 1:8
Recovers Failed Read 0x0011(Hex) - 17(Decimal)

so those HDDs are "working again the rebuild process"

so you have:
- backup your data
- replace hose 2 HDDs
- recreate array
- recover data

check this thread to understand these errors
