I have a DL 380 G3 running Windows 2003 SP2 that has a SmartArray 5i controller. There are 5 36 GB drives running raid 5. This is one logical drive (system and data). I would like to add one more drive to expand the drive.
Can I add the drive to the raid configuration and then extend it using the ACU? Will extending the raid in the ACU affect the OS?
If not then can I use third party software, such as Partition Manager, to extend the partition?
Thank you.

Does using third party software affect the fault tolerance of the raid?
If this one drive has a fault will it mean that the whole raid configuration is gone?

Re: Raid 5 expansion
It doesn't affect the raid level.
You have Raid 5, one drive may fail.
