Raid 5 on 3 disks - want to add another drive

I have a DL380 G2 with 3 x 18.2 Gb HDD's in a raid 5, I have sourced spare HDD's and want to one more drive to expand both partitions. My current partitons are
8gb(system) and 26gb(data).

Is it as simple as plugging in the drive, (I have spare bays), then adding the new drive to the array using the "Compaq Array Configuration Utility" What do I have to do to assign the space to the partitions and will I have to restore data afterwards ?

The controller is a "Smart Array 5i controller, embedded slot"

If this is not possible can I add the drive as a spare and will it be used automatically if one of the existing drives fails?

Tks,
Owen.

hi Owen

yes you can do it

you can insert more HDDs and create a new RAID

or you can add more HDDs and follow the procedure EXPAND and EXTEND and add more space to your existing RAID
