Raid 5 on HP 370ML

Hi,

We have a HP 370ML server with 5 harddisks at the moment. The first two disks are running raid 0 while the last 3 disks is running raid5.

We have another disk (same type and size) that have to be inserted in the server.

I have inserted the scsi harddisk in the server, but the disk is not available in windows. How do I configure the disk so it will be "connected" to the other disks in the raid 5. ?

In Bios or how?

Firstly you need Expand existing Array by adding Drive to pool and after Extend existing Logical Drive with Unused Drive
Use ACU (array Configuration Utility) Open COMPAQ/HP system Tools from Programs

Re: Raid 5 on HP 370ML

Could you please explain in details what I must chose to do the things in the right order.

On the server is the compaq array configuration utility xe installed -

I have tryed to expand the raid 5 yesterday but now there is just an error message that "expand is in progress" - But it is stopped at 51% and nothing more happend over the last 24 hours.

What I mean is where I chose to expand and the other steps

Re: Raid 5 on HP 370ML

you can restart server, verify if Firmware for Array controller and if driver was up to date, install latest ACU, that should not cause background process, see status after updates and restart, there is not many details on the Expand/Extend should be simply

Re: Raid 5 on HP 370ML

We are also facing with the same situation, wanted to add 2 hard drive to the existing 4 disks running raid 5.

our existing os is window 2000 server, does it allow logical drive extension??

our server is dated back to 2000, does it support the latest version of the ACU??

If I failed to expand the array, will it affect the data in the existing drive??

Thanks

Re: Raid 5 on HP 370ML

OK - In disk management on the server I can now see that 16GB uallocated disk, which is the size of the disk I have inserted.

As I said, I want to add this disk to the three raid 5 disks - how Do I do that.

I can upgrade to dynamic disks in the disk management, but I doubt this will be the solution.
