Raid Configuration

Can anyone confirm that a Raid 5 or Raid 1 Configuration using Compaq Raid Controller on a Proliant 1600 will show up as one logical drive on NT when viewed using Disk Administrator.

Thanks

Re: Raid Configuration

If all disks in the array were added at the same time - yes, you're correct. if you'd added drives to the array later (and have an older controller) add-on drives may show up as a new logical drive.

Re: Raid Configuration

It depends on which array controller and which Operating system is installed into the server. Windows 2000 support logical drive expansion, Windows NT 4 did not. If it is a new server or you can back and restore. The I would use smartstart and reconfigure with the new drive set and restore.

Re: Raid Configuration

We started with 3 by 9 Gig drives (Raid 5) and a 2SL controller. We added 2 by 9 Gig drives and used the Compaq SCSI utilities to reconfigure the 5 drives to a single RAID 5 array, then restored from tape. Those five drives show up as a single physical drive in disk administrator. An 18 Gig Internal SCSI drive and the CDROM show up as separate physical drives. Incidentially we swapped or 2SL to a 3200 (for performance) and I believe that it is possible to add drives without restoring from tape. Ron should be able to tell you.
