Raid card added to existing System

Our server arrived without RAID card - OS sbs 2003 is installed on first of 3 drives - we have now received Raid Card - can we amend OS to recognised raid card drivers

Re: Raid card added to existing System

Hi Dominic,

Couple of questions here:

1. What is the server model we are talking about?
2. What is the RAID card installed now?

Re: Raid card added to existing System

sure, but it won't fix ur issue.
u need to backup your system, create a logical RaidArray and restore your system ( with Raid Driver installed )

Re: Raid card added to existing System

Hi Dominic,

I meant is the RAID card any of these?

64-Bit/133-MHz Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter

64-Bit/66-MHz Dual Channel Wide Ultra3 SCSI Adapter, Alternate OS

64-Bit/133-MHz Single Channel Ultra3 SCSI HBA G2

OR

Is it a Smart array controller?

Re: Raid card added to existing System

Hello Dominic,

The RAID implementation in a Smart Array Controller is purely hardware raid as against the OS which is software raid.
If you connect the disks to the SA 6400 controller and it boots up(i suppose it would'nt),you are wasting a piece of hardware.
If your requirement is a hardware raid implementation(i suppose it is),backup data and deploy the server using the Smart Start Cd.

Re: Raid card added to existing System

I agree with Sandeep and Ramesh, take a backup and redo OS after installing the Smart Array Controller.
