Raid controllers compatible with HP Proliant DL160 G6 non hot plug disks
Hi.
We have HP Proliant DL160 G6 with non hot plug SATA hard drives (3.5 inch). Raid controller is Smart Array B110i SATA RAID. But it isn't supported by VMWare ESX/ESXi, so we can't create a raid array to install vmware esx.
Could you consult me what another raid controller is compatible with our server with non hot plug drives? Such as Smart Array P410i? Or another supported by VMWare ESX/ESXi.

Re: Raid controllers compatible with HP Proliant DL160 G6 non hot plug disks
According to the quickspecs, you can use the P212, P410 and P812 controllers with the non-Hot Plug drives.

At the ESX support, only ESX 4.0 or 4.1 is supported, not ESXi. The P410 is mentioned at the ESX drivers support

Hi.
I found out next:
"NOTE: The below storage controllers are intended for use with internal drives in the Hot Plug CTO Chassis Model (P/N 491532-B21or P/N 593352-B21). The HP Smart Array P212 Controller (P/N 491191-B21) is supported in the Non-Hot Plug Model (P/N 491531-B21) for external storage control ONLY."
Does it mean that P212 is not compatible with our server, because we have internal SATA hard drives.
And this:
"NOTE: The addition of a Smart Array hardware based storage controller to a Non-Hot Plug SATA Model is only supported for external storage."
Does it mean that we can use ONLY B110i for internal storage?
Could you check, that P410 and P812 we can use in our server with NON HOT PLUG SATA HARD DRIVES?

Re: Raid controllers compatible with HP Proliant DL160 G6 non hot plug disks
I can not test this for you. The two notes that you mentioned apply to the FIO/CTO order. I don't know why they don't sell the SA controllers as factory options for the internal drives. The notes in the storage section say that the SA controllers are supported.
Do you have a local HP supplier? Ask them to verify this for you.
