Raid on Proliant ML110 G4

I would appreciate advice regarding using the onboard raid to mirror 2 160 GB SATA drives under SBS2003 R2. Which configuration utility should I use - BIOS setup utility or Windows based? Which driver, firmware, management utility should I download from the driver download site? If I establish the mirror after installing SBS 2003 R2, will the primary drive be modified/negatively affected? TIA

Hi,

>> Which configuration utility should I use - BIOS setup utility or Windows based?

You should use the BIOS of the Host bus adapter.

1. In BIOS(F10) under Advanced menu screen, select Advanced Chipset Control.
2. Select the Serial ATA field to Enabled.
3. Select the SATA Controller Mode Option>Enhanced field.
4. Set the SATA RAID Enable field to Enabled.
5. Press F10, then select Yes to save the changes and close BIOS Setup Utility. The server automatically
reboots.

So you will enable RAID and a prompt will show by the controller initialisation during POST - press F8/Ctrl+A to configure RAID.

Then config is easy, just follow the menu.

After that you need to instal RAID drivers while installing - if you don't have USB floppy check f.e. here :

Which driver, firmware, management utility should I download from the driver download site? - you need the onboard sata ctrl driver :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=MTX-UNITY-I24822〈=en&cc=us&mode=3&

you can install on one HDD without floppy needed and then later add 2nd drive and enable drive(check the thread above)....
