Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

Hello,

we have a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 with 8x146GB drives. Currently I have 1x146GB dics for the System with Raid0. Now, I would like to setup a mirror with 2x 146GB with Raid1.

The question...can i add the disc without losing data and change the Raid to 1?
And is mirrored all Systemdata in the new disc automatically?

thanks for anwser...sry for bad english ;)

Yes you can migrate from raid 0 to raid 1. Just boot to smartstart and use the array configuration utility from there and make the changes.

I'm not sure we used the Smart Array P400.
Can I everywhere see, if BBWC install?

Re: Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

BBWC is only required for ADG (Raid 6) so you won't need to worry about it for Mirroring.

no, excuse me:
BBWC it's REQUIRED for the on-line-level-raid-migration.

Re: Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

from the specifications:

<<...
Addition of the battery backed cache upgrade enables BBWC, RAID 6 with ADG, array expansion, logical drive extension, RAID migration, and stripe size migration.

Re: Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

That is correct jackal...there must be a BBWC installed, at least 256 MB to perform Raid Migration, expansion and extensions...

Re: Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

take a look if you have SA E200 or P400

also according to this

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00712808&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

no matter which model "entry - base -performance"

the smart array should have BBWC by default, it can be 256(P400) or 64 (E200)

you can do yuor migration

Re: Raid1+0 Configuration HP Smart Array P400

Hello,

that's right. The "old" Smart Array (before E- and P-Series)activates only the write cache after an upgrade with a BBWC, online array expansion, raid migration etc. was enabled by default.

The new E- and P-Series controller activate this features only after the installation of a BBWC. In addition to that, RAID ADG is then available on P400/600/800, and RAID 5 on E200/500.

Just take a look in the quickspecs.

For me: I don't sell any ProLiant without a BBWC, regardless of which Smart Array Controller is build in. ;)

Best regards,
Patrick
