Raid1 to Raid5 Migration question?

Do i need to reboot the box after migrating a raid1 logical drive to raid5? Ive just done this and the migration has completed but i cant see the additional space in the ACU or in windows (in the ACU it does see the drive as Raid5 now). Theres nothing in the docs that says a reboot is necessary?

thanks..ive just moved to a new site that uses HP servers...for the last 5 years ive worked only with Dell!

Re: Raid1 to Raid5 Migration question?

Thanks Juan, then i assume i have a problem. As i mentioned my array now has 3x146gb drives physically but under the logical view in ACU it says:
Logical drive 1 (1460006 MB, RAID5)
Unused Space, 210019 MB

Surely the Logical drive should be 280gb or there abouts.
Ive gone from a 2 drive raid1 mirror to a 3 drive raid 5 but got no more space?

Re: Raid1 to Raid5 Migration question?

You need to expand the logical drive to your desired size. Just click expand and enter the desired size for the logical drive.

Hope this helps.

Re: Raid1 to Raid5 Migration question?

hi

yes the process is insert new HDDs
Expand in order to add those HDDs to the existing RAID 1 (it takes some time)
and after that do the migration.

for the expand process you can change the expand priority there are 3 options
low
medium
high
they depend on the workload for the server and you can change it at any time for example, your server in the morning has a lot of people connected so you can set expand priority o medium but at night when nobody in connected you can change it to high.
check he attached document
and also the manual that Juan Q added

Re: Raid1 to Raid5 Migration question?

thanks for your help, i have worked out what was wrong now...basically it reports 210gb free which is 70gb on each of the 3 drives. I was expecting to see the useable space eg 140gb as its a raid 5
bit of a user issue...eg me!
