Rebuild ML370 G2 - Suggested workflow?
We have a ML370G2 that with six 18.2GB Ultra3 drives, configured with two logical drives: 16.95 System partition and 33.91 "Data" partition. Current OS is Windows Server 2K. We are looking to rebuild. We've purchased three 72.8GB HP Universal HDs, Ultra 320 SCSI. We will retain three of the original 18.2GB drives. We want to install Windows Server 2003. We plan on setting a mirror for the OS and and RAID 5 config for the rest. Being new to server rebuilds, is it possible for someone to outline the steps I need to take to accomplish this project? I just need to install the new drives and OS. Thanks!

.. purchased three 72.8GB ..
.. We will retain three of the original 18.2GB ..
.. We plan on setting a mirror ..
Confusing
2 x 72 for Mirrored, 3 x 18 for RADI 5 and one for Online spare? Or 1x72+3x18 RAID 5?
What array Controller model used?
If you have Plans to use U320 in your system try to Update SCSI driver, Firmware for Array Controller and ACU, Remaining HDD firmware would be recommended for Updates. .
If you have some drives with data on the different set of HDD, power server down pull them out, install new drives install O/S after add old array to empty bay's when system down and power up, from Post it will redetect all logical drives and good to go, if you use Online spare add after all arrays detected and all works fine.

Re: Rebuild ML370 G2 - Suggested workflow?
Sorry for the confusion. The plan is to mirror 2-18.2GB and use 3 72GB for RAID 5 with one on-line spare of 18.2. The server has Compaq Smart Array 532 Ctrlr. The current data on the server will not be retained. After the server is set up, the plan is to move data to it from another existing server.
Not sure I understand all of "If you have some drives with data on the different set of HDD, power server down pull them out, install new drives install O/S after add old array to empty bay's when system down and power up, from Post it will redetect all logical drives and good to go"
The 18.2 drives currently have data. Should they be formatted before pulling and adding new 72G drives and installing new OS?
