Reduce excessive fan noise of Proliants in office environment
Hi
Is there any easy way of reducing fan noise of proliants 5500R-Xeon, 1600R-P3 & 1850R-P2 currently situated in an office enivornment.
For example, reducing the speed of fans using voltage regulation, acoustic materials etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Andy.

Re: Reduce excessive fan noise of Proliants in office environment
Are you running the Insight Manager agents? If you run the agents, they will throttle the fans down to the minimum setting need to cool the system.

Re: Reduce excessive fan noise of Proliants in office environment
Build a datacenter. You could put duct-tape over the air vents but that would likley be "too quiet". :) Not sure if those old servers suport that ability for the agents to slow the fans. In my experience with puting servers in office areas unless you're in a pretty open area they tend to heat up your office a bit so I'm not so sure they would slow the fans down even if they could. You could try telling people that it's not the servers it's a white noise generator to render the goverment and corporate compeditors bugs usless.
