Replace drive in array with bigger sized disk

Hi,

I have a Proliant Ml350 server with 4 18 Gb drives. They're in a raid 0+1 config (2 striped and then mirrored).
Now one of the disk is faulty and needs replacement. We don't have any spares of that size left.
********Question1: ***********
Can I replace the 18 Gb disk with a 36 Gb disk, without any problem?

********Question2: ***********
Can I later replace all the 18 Gb disks with 36 Gb disk and then us the free space as well?

Thank you for your time and answer.

Re: Replace drive in array with bigger sized disk

Hi Goedhart,

HP (RAID technology) not recommended U use different size disk create RAID. BTW, Ur first question:- U can no problem.

Second question:- When U join 36GB disk in 18GB group that time U get only 18GB rest of size U can not detect.

If Ur queries match then assign points.

Thanks--Yaqub

Re: Replace drive in array with bigger sized disk

hi

1 question, yes you can.

2 question, yes you can, you replace every 18 GB HDDs with 36 GB one by one.

insert a new 36 GB wait for the rebuild process to finish, go for the other one and so on
at the end expand the new size.

just my recommendation is, update the latest driver and firmware for your controller and good idea to have a backup before this procedure
